Restaurants in Denmark


Denmark is a country that boasts of historical royal castles to fairytale landscapes and the beautiful streets of Odense. With a unique stream of cultural influences from the history of the Vikings to arts and cuisine the Danish region is well renowned.

Capital of the Kingdom of Denmark, Copenhagen is a multi cultural city, which offers a world of surprises. One can head out and explore old historical sites, with their awe-inspiring architecture, relax in one of the idyllic seaside hotels or indulge in authentic Danish culinary delights.

When in Copenhagen visit The Royal Theater, which is the home base of the Royal Ballet, which stages ballets and operas. Visit the Old city, Slotsholmen, the city hall area or, The Wonderful World of Hans Christian Andersen, A Museum near the city hall plaza that offers a wonderful insight into Andersen's life.

A perfect place to head out for a walk and enjoy the scenic beauty is The Gefion Fountain, A fountain with a statue of Gefion, a goddess striking a bull with a whip. As well as Statue of The Little Mermaid, which is a representative piece of Denmark’s famous author, Andersen’s life. Tivoli Garden, adjacent to Copenhagen Central Station is a must visit, fom The Ferris wheel to the roller coaster, and performances at the Peacock Theater.

Christiansborg Castle, which is now used as a state guesthouse offers exhibits of its underground ruins of the 12th century fortress and features of the original castle. Visit Dansk Arkitec Center that hosts many exhibitions and relax in its café, adorned with Danish furniture.

When in Denmark, a must try is the famous Danish smørrebrød, unique in both looks and taste, its a Danish open sandwich. One can find traditional smørrebrød in countless places in Copenhagen, Odense and other cities. Visit Gitte Kik, a shop that specializes in open sandwiches that uses antique Royal Copenhagen plates and utensils.

Piil & Co, set in a historical and beautiful view, is a restaurant that serves traditional Danish cuisine or try out, Restaurant Divan 2 Tivoli, a historical restaurant located inside Tivoli Gardens that serves French and Continental cuisine.

For seafood visit, Krogs Fiskerestaurant, and for that quite and relaxing atmosphere visit Restaurant Gastronomique, a restaurant near Frederiksberg Castle. Cafe Sommersko, located on the south of Rosenborg Palace is a popular hangout for young crowd. For those delicious pateries, La Glace, is the place to visit, that offers a wide assortment of Danish pastries.

When shopping in Denmark one can explore the traditions of Danish design from arts to furniture and designer labels. Head out for a walk down Strøget which is home to large exclusive stores and specialty shops. In the alleyways one can find unique art and antique shops.

Odense, over a thousand years old is a beautiful and dynamic city with a wealth of musical and cultural attractions. Visit The Funen Art Museum that is home to a large art collection or The Funen Village, an open-air museum. Head out to Egeskov Castle, a renaissance Island castle, and explore its beauty and wonder or just relax in one of the many cafes in the city.
